An area of considerable growth within recent years has been with Hybrid-Electric Vehicles, such as Toyota’s Prius and Auris, Honda’s Civic IMA and Insight; and almost all manufacturers are in the process of releasing a Hybrid vehicle within the next year or so. These vehicles contain high voltage batteries, and have components which operate at up to 650V AC! This means the vehicle has more power than an electric chair – and failure to follow the correct procedures when disabling the high voltage system could cause injury or death.
In other European countries, it is now a legal requirement that you hold a qualification in Hybrid-Electric Vehicle Technology, to allow you to service and maintain these vehicles correctly and safely
ICT Workshop Solutions are now in a position to offer four courses to give Vehicle Technicians and Emergency Services the vital training they need to work on or around hybrid vehicles:
IMI Awards QCF Level 1 – Electric Vehicle Awareness is a short one-day (or evening) course, designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles and require safety awareness. It is suitable for non-technical people such as managers, valeters, parts, sales staff and electric vehicle drivers. It contains the knowledge of the dangers surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles and the precautions to avoid potential injury. Note – this is a knowledge unit only, and does not deem someone competant to work on the high energy electrical system.
IMI Awards QCF Level 2 – Electrically Propelled Vehicle Hazard Management is a one-day course, designed for those people who may encounter accident damaged or broken down electric and hybrid vehicles, eg. Emergency Services and Roadside Recovery Operators. It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high and/or low voltage electrical system. Note – this is a knowledge unit only, and does not deem someone competant to work on the high energy electrical system.
| Course Type | £ Per Person (+ VAT) |
| Level 1 (1 day – short course) | £150.00 |
| Level 2 (1 day) | £230.00 |
IMI Awards QCF Level 2 – Hybrid Electric Vehicle Operation and Maintenance is a two-day course which is classroom-based intensive theoretical training. This Award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair hybrid technology vehicles, but not the hybrid system itself. It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle’s hybrid system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. It discusses the Hybrid components used by various manufacturers, how the systems work, and how to safely discharge and immobilise the high-voltage systems. This knowledge is tested via a multiple-choice test. Therefore on completing this Level 2 qualification, technicians will have gained both knowledge of high voltage hybrid technologies and an understanding of their dangers.
IMI Awards QCF Level 3 – Hybrid Electric Vehicle Repair and Replacement is a three day course, incorporating the Level 2 course as above, but adding a workshop-based third day. This Award is designed for technicians who maintain hybrid vehicles and the hybrid system itself. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely in and around the vehicle’s hybrid system. The knowledge is tested via a multiple choice test, and the skills via oral questioning and a practical assessment. On completion of this qualification (containing both Level 2 & 3), technicians will be able to practically demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills required for repairing vehicles with high voltage hybrid technologies.
| Course Type | £ Per Person (+ VAT) |
| Level 2 (2 days) | £450.00 |
| Level 3 (1 day) * | £250.00* |
| Level 2 & 3 (3 days) | £660.00 |
* Level 2 must be completed before you can take Level 3
