Diagnostic Training

diagnostic-headerMany people have found themselves muddling through with vehicle diagnostics for a number of years. They have bought code readers, diagnostic tools, maybe even oscilloscopes, but never with the basic training to understand what they are looking for, or where to look.

The purpose and aim of this qualification is to qualify individuals (working with cars and car derived vans), to meet a satisfactory level of understanding and competence when working on vehicles to understand the communication of the electronics used today.

This qualification is suitable for technicians who have completed basic training and have an understanding of currently manufactured vehicles.

The qualification is made up of two units:

QAA Level 2 is an award in Automotive Engine Management Diagnostics, where there is theoretical and practical work done over a two day period. There will be extensive training on the use of Scan Tool type equipment; this will be carried out in the classroom and workshop. There is an introduction to other type tools required to diagnose correctly on today’s vehicles.

On completion of the two days training there is an on-line test to complete; this test must be passed before being eligible to take the following Level 3 training.

QAA Level 3 is an award in Automotive Diagnostic Procedures; this should only be taken after completing Level 2. This is a day where candidates put knowledge into practice using many forms of testing equipment to diagnose faults on vehicles.

After initial guidance candidate will complete a practical exercise following all safe working practices. They will demonstrate the ability to test, repair and retest following procedures learned from completing level 2.
