Wheel Balancers have made a number of advancements in recent years. The more widespread adoption of alloy wheels, and especially larger diameter wheels, has meant that you need to be much more careful with the customer’s wheel when balancing. It’s no longer a case of just banging weights onto the rim – often you will be required to hide the weights behind the spokes, so as not to detract from the cosmetic appeal of the design.
A number of adapters may also be required to deal with variations in wheel construction, such as solid-centred wheels (eg. Peugeot/Citroen) or light commercial wheels which may require spacers to fit to the Balancer shaft.
